Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 電機工程研究所 === 94 === Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a private network that connects remote sites or users through shared infrastructure. Because a shared network based private network is more cost effective than a leased line based private network, VPN has become an attractive choice for enterprise to construct its Intranet. Recently, with the advent of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, MPLS VPN has become a hot research topic. MPLS can provide QoS (Quality of Service) guarantee mechanism. It is therefore very suitable for VPN that provides QoS guarantee. Furthermore, MPLS has an advantage in protocol compatibility since it can support multiple Layer 3 protocols (e.g., IP, IPX, etc.) and also many Layer 2 protocols (Ethernet, ATM, Frame Relay, etc.). Currently, MPLS VPN standards are still at the draft stage. There is no finalized standard yet. The focus of this thesis is on implementing VPLS, one of the most promising MPLS VPN technologies, over network processor platforms.
