Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 電機工程所 === 94 === With the success of the Internet and advances in wideband multimedia processing technologies, traditional telecommunication and TV industries have encountered great challenges form service and network provider. New emerging services such as the Voice over IP (VoIP) services have raised revolutionary for telecommunications industry. Due to their highly development, Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) and other multimedia services and expected to become realized in the near future. However, mobility would mean more than that in the future. The services shall be made available based on the user’s activities rather than constrained by the devices he/she uses or by the location he/she resides. This thesis will be emphasis on the development of the intelligent gateway to be deployed between home networks and the Internet. This intelligent gateway is designed to provide the session mobility service for such multimedia services such as VoIP and IPTV, especially for the portable streaming services. In addition, the use of multicast mechanism would enhance the capability of this gateway by increasing the numbers of users. Unlike conventional design of the session mobility, the method we proposed in this paper does not need to rebuild the ongoing session and thus reduce the signaling delay. The prototype of the proposed intelligent gateway is implemented based on the IXP425 network processor technology and the implementation feasibility assessment shows very promising experimental results. This study has confirmed that the design of the intelligent gateway meets the session mobility requirements for the home network environment and the network processor provides a practical implementation solution for the proposed intelligent gateway.
