Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 犯罪防治所 === 94 === Traditionally, researchers have tried to understand theft behavior by using conceptual schemes such as rational choice theory and routine activities theory. Such schemes have proved very useful for understanding crime-behavior and for the adoption of situational crime prevention strategies. But it is also recognized that prevention strategies may also cause displacement to other targets and other offences. Recently, criminal careers research has also begun to contribute to a deeper understanding of criminal patterns of behavior. The purpose of the study is to explore criminal patterns of career residential burglars on the basis of the above-mentioned perspectives. A qualitative methodology are used in this study. 8 convicted offenders (in prison) are interviewed by semi-structured questionnaire. Overall, the intention of the study is to identify specific patterns both in relation to the career path of the burglars and the means used to commit the crimes. As such, the study can offer both possible strategies of intervention with career burglars and advice on residential security.
