The driver includes an active power factor corrector to achieve a high power factor, a forward converter to provide stable curren for the lamp, and a high voltage ignitor in parallel connec-tion with the lamp, and a full-bridge inverter for generating square ac current to drive the lamp. The driver can also achieve constant power control in the steady state with a micro-controller, and can prevent the lamps from unstable operation due to aging effect and characteristic variation. Through experimental tests, it can be observed that the designed ballast can drive the UHP lamps stead-ily and achieve high performance.
