Summary:碩士 === 長庚大學 === 護理學研究所 === 94 === In this cross sectional study, we evaluated the quality of life of new diagnosed head and neck cancer patients in a medical center in Northern Taiwan. The demographic data, disease specific characteristics and depressive condition were further evaluated. From Nov. 2004 through May 2005, 62 subjects were included into this study. The quality of life was evaluated by questionnaires of EORTC QLQ-C30, EORTC Quality of Life Head and Neck Module(EORTC QLQ-H&N35). The depressive condition was evaluated by the questionnaire of depression for Taiwanese. The statistical analysis was conducted by the Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The results showed that: (1) the quality of life was affected by the marital status, education level, occupation status and age. (2) The stage of cancer, nutritional status, and subjective health consciousness showed statistically significant impact on the quality of life. (3) The depressive status showed a negative impact on the healthy situation of subjects / global quality of life, role function, emotional function, cognitive function, social function, fatigue, the appetite fails, swallowing problem, olfaction and gustation issues, speech issue, social activity eat issue, social activity issue, sexual life, dry mouth sensation and feeling of uncomfortable. The results provided clinical information to understand the quality of life impact of head and neck cancer patients. By including the risk factors assessment in the nursing care, we could provide better nursing intervention and improve the quality of patient care.
