The study analysis settlement structures from urbanized areas, whilst investigating the Chinese urban model which is different form the west.(Chieh, po-show, 2004) The so called “Desakota Regions”, semi-urbanized area is a mixture of small towns and rural villiage, which located at the corridors between metropolitans. Affected by the development of several small to mid size cities as well as industrialized areas, labor oriented, service based, and other non-agriculture industries grow fast in such regions. The interaction between people and merchandise is intensive (McGee, T. G.,1991). The concept of this study was adopted from foreign Desakota literatures, then transformed into indictors for Desakota regions in Taiwan. Case studies include Hsinchu county, Taichung county and Tainan county, and those three regions all have large science park development. This study compare indictors of north, central and south from year 1994, 1999, 2003, then discuss their Desakota phenomena. According to selected test variables, this study used year 2003 as the baseline to analysis characteristics and issues of Desakota phenomena in Hsinchu county, Taichung county and Tainan county. In order to increase academic understandings for Desakota phenomena, the aim of this study is to discuss such phenomena around science parks, and illustrated as diagrams which indicate semi-urbanized towns. Such diagram can be used as the reference data for science park development as well as further research on Desakota in Taiwan in the future.
