It especially notes down the process and the details of the author’s translating the book. This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter I introduces the background of the book and the author of The Great Gatsby. Chapter II states some contemporary translation theories that help author’s translation. Chapter III records the process of the translation and the comparison between Chinese and English languages. Chapter IV compares different versions of translation, dealing with some difficult English sentences from The Great Gatsby. Chapter V sums up the translation experience and gives suggestions for future translators.
