Description
Summary:碩士 === 中國醫藥大學 === 護理學系碩士班 === 94 === The purposes of this research were to develop the Self-Care Behavior Scale for Chronically Ill Elders and test its reliability and validity. The 41 items of the original scale were derived from the literature review and qualitative data from a previous study. Through expert reviews, three items were deleted. The remaining 38 items were revised according to experts’ suggestions. Then the scale was administered to a convenience sample of 307 elders with chronic illness living in the community. The data were analyzed by three kinds of item analysis, 11 items were deleted because of not meeting selecting standards. Factor analysis was then performed on data for remaining 27 items with factor loadings higher than 0.3, and extracted three factors with an explained variance of 49.8%. They were labeled: self-health management, performance of illness-related medical activities, and modification of dietary style. The coefficient alphas of each factor were 0.89, 0.88, and 0.73, and 0.92 for the total scale. Test-retest reliability over a two-week period was 0.93. The criterion-related validity was supported by significant correlations between two criterion items and self-care behavior. The results indicated that this scale was applicable to elders, and with acceptable validity and reliability.
