Firstly, this study discusses the development of leadership and leadership style theory including the related literatures on leadership traits, transformational leadership, transactional leadership, non-transactional leadership and leader effectiveness in formulating the conceptual framework, research hypotheses and research questionnaires. This study used questionnaire survey to collect the data and chose the subordinates of female managers in the life insurance industry in Taiwan as research subjects. Using stratified random sampling, a total of 70 levels in which 247 are valid samples were selected and a return rate of 35% was attained. Descriptive statistics, t test, one-way ANOVA analysis and Scheffe’ analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis were used for hypothesis testing. After the data analysis, the proposed conclusions are summarized as follows: 1. Female managers of life insurance industry display high leadership traits like “clear vision”, “strong aspiration” and “social capabilities”. 2. Female managers of life insurance industry mostly prioritize “transformational leadership style” first, followed by “transactional leadership style” and lastly, “non-transactional leadership style”. 3. The female managers of life insurance industry show average level performance in leadership effectiveness in which the perception of subordinates toward “subordinate attitude” is the best and the “team process” is the least. 4. Different ages, marital status, educational attainment and monthly salary of subordinates show different perceptions toward the leadership traits of the female managers of life insurance industry. 5. Different ages, marital status, educational attainment and seniority of subordinates show different perceptions toward the leadership styles of the female managers of life insurance industry. 6. Different educational attainments of subordinates show different perceptions toward the leadership effectiveness of female managers of life insurance industry. 7. The leadership traits and leadership effectiveness of the female managers of life insurance industry have a positive correlation. Among all the leadership traits, innovation and change can forecast goal attainment, subordinate attitude, leadership satisfactory and overall leadership effectiveness while crisis awareness can forecast team process. 8. Under the leadership styles, transformational leadership has highest positive correlation with leadership effectiveness, followed by transactional leadership while non-transactional leadership has negative correlation with leadership effectiveness. 9. On the relationship between leadership traits and leadership effectiveness, decision and implementation abilities can best forecast goal attainment; professional capabilities can best forecast high subordinate attitude and high team process; inspiration can best forecast leadership satisfactory and anticipated leadership traits can best forecast the overall leadership effectiveness.
