| Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 財稅所 === 94 === The purpose of this study is to examine the determinants of the willing to pay for garbage collection and treatment and value the benefit of garbage collection and treatment for residents in Taichung using the contingent valuation method (CVM).
The empirical results show that knowledge about the policy of garbage collection and treatment fees in Taichung area and attitudes concerning the willing to pay (WTP) for garbage collection and treatment have a significantly positive effect on the WTP for garbage collection and treatment. However, the area of respondent’s house has a significantly negative effect on the WTP for garbage collection and treatment.
Under the single-bounded dichotomous choice model, we used the Probit and Logit models to estimate the WTP for garbage collection and treatment. The estimated WTP are NT$ 23.61 and NT$ 28.64 per month per capita respectively. Under the double-bounded dichotomous choice model, Bivariate Probit model was adopted. The estimated WTP is NT$ 53.37 per month per capita under the first inquiry, and is NT$ 20.47 per month per capita under the second inquiry. The estimated WTP is between NT$ 20.47 and NT$ 53.37. That is the garbage disposal fees are between the range of NT$ 0.26 to NT$ 0.67 per kilogram. The estimated garbage disposal fee is closed to the garbage disposal fee charged by the Midwest in the U.S.A. Hope our empirical results will be a reference for pricing garbage by the bag in Taichung area.
