First, we analyze the content on cable TV, and then develop a questionnaire survey based on the analysis results. We use Tao Yuan elementary school students as the objects for the survey, to understand those schoolchildren’s behavior of watching those Japanese cartoons, what their thoughts are, the degree of approval to the violence, their imitation behavior, and so on. We then determine the correlation among those variables. In this research, we found that using hands and feet to attack opponents happen to be the most frequent. Among almost all the violence cartoons, the “Ghost White Book” is the most severe program and the “Fire Shade Yenja” is the second, in terms of violating the rules. For the watching frequency of those violence cartoons, we found: 1. Japanese cartoons reception status a. In average, students watch TV 2 hours and 38 minutes per day during the weekdays, and 4 hours and 16 minutes per day during the weekend. b. The motivation of watching Japanese cartoon is “fun to watch” c. When watching, “watch with brothers and sisters only, without adult” has the highest percentage. 2. The analysis of “Population variable” and “degree of approval” a. Girls have higher percent of “degree of approval” on the “Passive Violent Attack” b. The higher grades, the higher percent of “degree of approval” on the “Passive Violent Attack” c. Interesting to see that the parents education level shows two extremes when associates to “Active Violent Attack” and “Passive Violent Attack”. The higher the parents’ education and the lower the parents’ education , the higher percent of the “degree of approval”. d. If the mother’s profession is in government or education, the children have lower degree of approval to the “Active Violent Attack”. e. The father’s profession has no association with the children’s approval of the violence, while mother’s profession does. It implies that the most responsibility of educating the children is on mother. f. If the way of parents educating the children toward violence, the children’s degree of approval to violence is higher. g. By examining five close friends of the child, he or she has higher degree of approval to violence, if the friends are more intimate and agreeable. h. The more interaction with friends, the higher “Passive Violent Attack” . i. Finally, the score at school works is opposite to the degree of approval to violence. The higher the score, the lower degree of approval. 3. The analysis of “Population variable” and the “prospect to Japanese cartoon” a. Gender and parents’ educations make the prospects to Japanese cartoon different. Boys have higher regards to the Japanese cartoon than girls. b. The higher the parents’ educations, the higher prospect of the children to Japanese cartoon. 4. The analysis of “watching behavior” and “the prospect to Japanese cartoon” a. The higher watching rate, the higher regards to the Japanese cartoon 5. The analysis of “population variable” and “watching behavior to Japanese cartoon” a. Gender, grade, family economic situation, and parents’ education level affect the children’s watching behavior b. Boys watch more than girls c. Mostly watch with brothers and sisters d. Most of the “heavy viewers” (watching more than 4 hours per week) children have single parent or stay in others family. 6. The analysis of “watching behavior” and “degree of approval to violence” The children, who watch at least 4 hours per week and watch with brother and sister, have the highest degree of approval to violence 7. The analysis of “watching behavior” and “prospect to Japanese cartoon” The children, who watch at least 4 hours per week and watch with brother and sister, have the highest degree of approval to Japanese cartoon 8. The analysis of “prospect to Japanese cartoon” and “degree of approval to violence” It suggests strong correlation between these two. The children, who have the higher prospect to Japanese cartoon, have higher degree of approval to violence. Key words: Japanese cartoon, violence, schoolchildren
