The Influence of National High Way No.5 Opening on Traveling and Related Consuming Behaviors in Jiaosi Area.

碩士 === 佛光人文社會學院 === 經濟學系 === 94 === The purpose of this research is to discuss whether the traveling and related consuming behaviors are changed, whether travelers have higher willing to stay over night in Jiaosi area and how the tourism industry response after the opening of HWY No.5. This research aims to provide reference for the future touring development and hotel industry management in Jiaosi area, even in Yilan area. The surveying locations of this research are in 3 hotels and one visitor center, which are listed in the end of this essay. The major interviewees of this survey are the travelers who visited the 3 hotels and the visitor center during October 2005 and January 2006 in Jiaosi area. The survey in this research is processed and analyzed by SPSS software. The statistical methodologies include frequency analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, and one-way analysis of variance. The major conclusions are: 1. Demographics characteristics: In this research, the number of female interviewees is a little bit more than that of male. Most of the interviewees’ age ranges from 20 to 40 years old. The major education level of the interviewees is university graduated. The major occupation of the interviewees is business. The major married status is single. And the personal income per month of these interviewees mainly ranges from thirty thousand to sixty thousand NT dollars. 2. Traveler characteristics: The major visiting frequency before the opening of HWY No.5 is from 1 to 5 times per year, the most staying time is from 1 to 2 days. The willing for visiting Jiaosi and Yilan after the opening of HWY No.5 increases. The frequency for staying over night in Yilan and Jiaosi before the opening of HWY No.5 is 1.28 times and 2.2 times. SO the most staying time is from 1 to 2 days. After the opening of HWY No.5, the willing for staying over night increases, and the increasing time is about half day. Furthermore, after the opening of HWY No.5, the willing for enjoying hot spring in Jiaosi area increases. And the types for enjoying hot spring are different; before the opening of HWY No.5, indoor individual hot spring room is the major choice, after the opening of HWY No.5, outdoor individual hot spring pool is the major choice. 3. Traveling characteristics: During the past year, the main purposes of travelers’ visiting in Yilan are for leisure trip, ecological trip, and group trip. Before the opening of HWY No.5, the major traveling schedule in visiting Jiaosi area is for hot spring, and the secondary one is for delicacies. The major factor for staying over night in Jiaosi is because of the distinguishing feature of hot spring, and the next one is for the scenery in Jiaosi area. Before the opening of HWY No.5, the major accommodation choice for stay over night in Jiaosi area is leisure tourist hotels, and the next choice is homestay. After the opening of HWY No.5, the 5 star ranked tourist hotel is the top choice, and the next one is the lodges in leisure farm. Satisfied service attitude is the critical factor for travelers to decide to stay over night in Jiaosi area, and the next one is reasonable room rates. The major information source to find an accommodation for staying over night in Jiaosi area is from internet, and the next one is recommended by relatives or friends. 4. Traveling expense, number of accompanying travelers and vehicles for transportation: The number of accompanying travelers mainly ranges from 1 to 2 people before the opening of HWY No.5. But after the opening of HWY No.5, the number mainly ranges from 3 to 4 people. In the aspect of traveling expense, before the opening of HWY No.5, the average expense for accommodation fee is NTD. 1436.313, for entertainment fee is NTD. 707.36, and for the food and beverage fee is NTD. 916.52. After the opening of HWY No.5, the average expense for accommodation fee is NTD. 1749.419, for entertainment fee is NTD. 757.56, and for the food and beverage fee is NTD. 967.68. Obviously, the traveling expense after the opening of HWY No.5 increases. In the aspect of accommodation price, the expected ideal price for accommodation in Jiaosi area for 2 people or less doesn’t change whether it’s before or after the opening of High Way No.5. However, if the number of travelers is more than 2 people, the expected ideal price for accommodation increases. In the aspect of vehicles for transportation, self-own passenger car is the major vehicle. But after the opening of HWY No.5, the proportion is even higher.
