For high-speed transmission, Inductor-load Regulated Cascaded (L-RGC) amplifier is used between the transimpedance and photodiode. The receiver bandwidth is extended using inductor load regulated cascade amplifier and the dynamic range is enhanced by the multi-stage architecture. For this reason, the optical receiver achieves a 500MHz maximum data rate. It performs 86dB dynamic range at 100MHz with 5pF photodiode capacitance. An Programmable Error amplifier used in the receiver could realize a tunable cut-off frequency. So the low frequency noise produced by PIN photodiode will be reduced efficiently. Due to the utilized of Programmable Error amplifier, the design of the receiver become more selectiveness. A Hysteresis amplifier is applied to obtain good capability of input noise rejection. The active inductor loads can replace the passive inductor loads for silicon area reduction. So a programmable high-speed infrared transceiver is feasible. In this thesis, we used TSMC 0.18um1P6M process and 1.8V power supply. A higher poly resistor, non-silicided, and MIM capacitance was used.
