Designers can approach the reduction of power consumption in a number of ways. First, they can use low power consumption components, such as a low-power display, a display with an adjustable backlight, a low-power processor, and a low-power disk. To verify the low power design, we must ascertain the integral structure of the power plane of portable computers, and provide an accurate and automatic measurement for the power consumption of each of the motherboard modules. Moreover, we focus on the key modules of the whole portable computer based on the power consumption, and then replace the key modules or devices with a lower powered item. In addition to the normal operation, we measure and reduce the power consumption of the “S3 (Suspend to RAM)” and “S4 (Suspend to DISK)” by redesigning and reducing the power consumption of the related circuits.
