Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 翻譯學研究所 === 95 === The Japanese fantasy novel series Onmyouji has roused great reactions and responses in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China. Does Seimei’s “ju” bring different effects in different translations? The main objectives of this thesis are to analyze and compare two translations from Miya Moro (Muses Publishing House, Taiwan) and Lin Qinghua (Nanhai Publishing Corporation, China) of Onmyouji, a famous novel written by Baku Yumemakura; examine the problems of translation and the factors that influence translation with different theories, such as Cultural Translation and Dynamic Equivalence; and generalize some practicable translation strategies and methods to solve the problems of translation for translators. Chapter 1 presents the motivations and purposes of this thesis. The structures of translation criticism of Katharina Reiss and Peter Newmark are introduced as the main basis in this thesis. The outline of this thesis is presented in the end of this chapter. In Chapter 2, Onmyouji and the two Chinese translations are introduced. The experiences, works and backgrounds of the author and translators are also presented. In the end, we organize and analyze the features of the original and the translations. Chapter 3 presents the problems of translation. Different categories, such as Culture Words, 31-syllable Japanese poem, puns, onomatopoeia and mimetic words, interjection, and ambiguity, are discussed. Translation theories and strategies related to the categories are presented. We also analyze actual examples as proofs. In Chapter 4, we discuss the discoveries and results of the comparison between the two translations. We also present possible aspects for further research.
