Summary: | 碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 社會福利學系碩士班 === 94 === A group of special female migrants emerged against the background of capital internationalization. They entered into commercialized transnational marriages through an intermediary relationship similar to commodity trading on the market. No matter how and why they immigrate into Taiwan, they all face the problem of adapting to a new life and culture as well as all kinds of conflicts and contradictions in identification in terms of race, gender, strata and so on. Their working and social rights are not fully guaranteed or assisted by the nation; or not being properly respected and valued. For those foreign and mainland China spouses who live in Taiwan for a long-term period, they are not only cast an imputation of coming to fill their own pockets with money in the job market but also receive all sorts of limitations in employment. For those who have the economic burdens, a job is their most imperative needs. Before acquiring a work permit, they can just work secretly or endure poor working conditions. Although they are evaluated by the standard of working performance of national employees, they cannot obtain the same treatment and welfare as local employees. Choosing foreign and mainland China spouses as the research subjects, this study demonstrates their current working situation in the job market and shows how they find their own places under the disadvantaged employment conditions.
The purposes of this study are listed as follows:
1.Understand the motives of working and the considerations of choosing the job of foreign and mainland China spouses.
2.Understand the current situation and the plight facing this group in the job market of Taiwan and display their working process in Taiwan.
3.Check the impact of the regulations Taiwan about the formal and substantial conditions of home care workers on the foreign and mainland China spouses who work in the caring service industry.
4.Understand the formal and informal social support and assistance acquired by the group employed as home care workers and discuss their working plights.
Since not much empirical research on the employment of this group has been done, this thesis is just an explorative study in which the author selected the interviewees according to their aims, presenting their considerations in choosing their jobs in the caring service industry, as well as their employment process, current situation, and plights through in-depth interviews.
The results of the study show in below:
1.Although income is their major motive, the reasons for their engaging in the caring industry vary from one to the other.
2.They not only suffered from “discrimination of the former job market”, but are separated in the labor market by the “discrimination of the latter job market” as well. The study shows their job category belongs to marginal labor.
3.When the group is transferred from the informal job market to the formal one, their working motives and the training before working as well as their qualification all affect their willingness of being the home care workers and the actual experience of working.
4.The informal and formal social supports to this group influence their accommodations of being the home care workers. The interview also revealed different working plights caused by different nationality.
5.The interaction of all these factors such as nationality discrimination, responsibility of taking care of their family, and employment discriminations have led to employment predicament of this group in Taiwan.
