The commercial simulator ChemCad is used for the analysis of the single reactive distillation column and the whole process. The effects of design variables include: (1) the feed ratio of RD column (2) the rectifying section in RD column (3) the stripping section in RD column (4) the recycle rate of the bottom product of RD column (5) the organic reflux of RD column (6) the water added in the decanter (7) the recycle of stripper. By comparing the two processes with equilibrium controlled model and kinetic controlled model respectively, the trends of the effects of all variables are similar for these two processes and the deviations are also small. During the preliminary process design stage, where kinetic data or the column internals are unknown, using the equilibrium mode to design the reactive distillation is suggested.
