Description
Summary:碩士 === 明志科技大學 === 工程技術研究所 === 94 === As a result of high demands for electronic products together with environmental concerns, Taiwan’s electronics industry is reviewing methods to upgrade and retrofit their water treatment plants. Aging plants built 10 to 15 years ago no longer meet today’s ever changing production requirements. However, modifying these plants utilizing the original water system supplier is typically cost prohibitive. As a result, many plant facilities are re-focusing their efforts on increasing their in-house engineering resources and knowledgebase so that they are able to upgrade the design of their existing systems without outside assistance. This article presents an actual situation at an existing IC plant located in Hsinchu Industrial Park. The plant’s engineering team was able to do the design upgrade of their existing water treatment plant using only in-house resources. Considerations included the following: * Limited factory space * Higher water capacity requirements * Changing regulatory and environmental requirements * Operating costs * Flexibility of technology for further expansion In combination with the operations team, the engineering team established the plant upgrade design criteria. Studying the various technologies currently available globally, the most efficient design was selected. Final water treatment design utilized various modular membrane based technologies including reverse osmosis (RO), membrane de-gasification (MDG), continuous electro- de-ionization (CEDI) and ultra-filtration (UF). Now in operation for 10-months, the upgraded water treatment plant continues to be stable and continues to meet technical and environmental requirements as originally stipulated. In addition, chemical operating costs have been significantly reduced. Included in this article is a summary of the water treatment plant operating results. Also highlighted are the benefits associated with utilizing membrane based technology for projects of this type.
