The porphyrin core and triarylamine units are connected by an ethynyl-bridge. These hydrids were designed for the potential application in the dye-sensitised solar cell and nano-sized molecular devices. In this thesis, two types of porphyrins for dye-sensitized solar cell were synthesized, i.e., the carboxylic groups at para- or meta- position of phenyl groups attached to the meso- carbons of porphyrin. The introduction of triarylamine groups to the porphyrin ring result in red shifts and peak boarding of B and Q band. We will investigate whether or not the positions of carboxylic groups and the numbers of triarylamine groups affect photocurrent conversion efficiency. In addition, we employed tetraethynylporphyrin for the synthesis of highly conjugated porphyrin-triarylamine hybrids. Using Sonogashira coupling reaction, we were able to synthesize highly conjugated porphyrin-triarylamine hybrids.
