The first portion stresses on magnetic pole design particularly to be used for the active magnetic bearings, via Ansoft Maxwell software as the simulation and design tool. Four kinds of magnetic pole geometry and eight kinds of magnetic pole allocation are discussed. At the same time, a design concept of hybrid electromagnets/permanent magnets is applied to incorporate with three magnetic poles/four magnetic poles allocation. Efficiency, winding pattern and feasibility of metal-cutting process for mass production are also considered. At the end, a modified magnetic pole design with four magnetic poles allocation is selected because it can save up to 18.8% electric energy , in comparison with conventional design, and perform with higher flux density. The second portion emphasizes on dynamic analysis of the flexible rotor under different spinning speeds. It is assumed that the shaft is a Rayleigh beam. Analytical method, Finite Element method and Order Reduction method are employed in this research and compared with each other, with respect to frequency response.
