Then, via Suzuki reaction of the obtained diiodine intermediates with 1-naphthaleneboronic acid and benzeneboronic acid, followed by acidification and hydrolysis yield the novel 2,2’-diphenyl and 2,2’-di(1-naphthyl)-4,4’-biphenyldicarboxylic acids. This study has been separated into two parts. Part I to II include three series of novel aromatic polyhydrazides, poly(1,3,4-oxadiazole)s and polyamides based on 2,2’-diphenylbiphenyl-4,4’-dicarboxylic acid and 2,2’-di(1-naphthyl)biphenyl-4,4’-dicarboxylic acid. The synthesis, basic characterization, electrochemical and optical properties of three series of novel aromatic polymer side chain phenyl or naphthyl-substituents groups were investigated and compared. All polymers had good solubility in many polar aprotic solvents, and exhibited excellent thin-film-forming ability. In additiony to high Tg values, good thermal stability and proper LUMO energy levels, all the obtained polymers also exhibited excellent blue-emitting characteristics by the optical methods. Thus, these phenyl or naphthyl-substituents polymers may be widely applied in P-LED as electro-transporting material in display devices due to their excellent high efficient blue light, proper LUMO values and thermal stability.
