With basketball players as experiment group I, regular students as experiment group II and control group with a total of 3 groups with each consisting of 15 students as our test subjects, we implement an 8 week core training to test the comparison and the relationship between their core muscle fitness and basic motor capability, and also to test any improvement in performance in these two aspects. With this experiment, we used equipments such as treatment couches, goniometer and pressure bio-feedback to test their abilities of abdominal isometric endurance, back isometric endurance, abdominal dynamic endurance, back extension dynamic endurance, trunk control ability, trunk stability, 50 yard dash run, 30 feet shuttle run, vertical jump, triple long jump, and distanced basketball throwing. Using T test and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient to analyze the results (α< .05). The test results show that before core training and excluding trunk stability, basketball players have a more superior performance than regular students. As of motor capability, basketball players also show better results than regular students especially in shuttle run and distanced basketball throwing. After core training, there was no obvious difference between experiment groups I and II in terms of isometric endurance, abdominal dynamic endurance, and back extension dynamic endurance. As compared to control group, there was still an obvious difference in back extension dynamic endurance. After the 8 week core training, through core muscle fitness test and basic motor capability test, basketball players showed an obvious improvement in trunk control ability within the core muscle fitness test; experiment group II improved in back extension dynamic endurance and trunk control ability; however control group showed no obvious difference. As of the test results of basic motor capability, basketball players showed obvious differences in all performances; experiment group II showed obvious improvement in vertical jump, triple long jump, shuttle run, and distanced basketball throwing; control group had obvious improvement in triple long jump and distanced basketball throwing. This improvement may be related to their involvement in physical education class and/or their development in puberty. According to the test results, it has proven that athletic abilities are directly related to deep and superfacial core muscle fitness. As a conclusion, core training can help junior high school students achieve better performance in both core muscle fitness and basic motor capability. Coaches and teachers are strongly encouraged to develop students’ core muscles to help proper growth in puberty and at the same time help prevent sport injuries.
