Summary:碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 光電工程系所 === 94 === Liquid crystal display (LCD) has become more and more popular with the advanced fabrication technology of liquid crystals. Because Liquid crystal can’t radiate light itself, an use of backlight module is necessary. The design goals of backlight module are the enhancement of the uniformity and the brightness by which the display quality can be improved. Nevertheless, to increase the brightness of display, an use of optical element, such as brightness enhancement film (BEF), without changing light source, has been the main trend in developing the display. The purpose of this thesis is to extensively investigate the efficiencies of a series of different-form-shaped base elements in BEF and their light guiding mechanisms by means of ray tracing analysis. It is also to provide a comparison for BEF optimization. We also extend our analysis to the design of non-straight-viewing BEF and its brightness enhancement.
