The purpose of this research was to explore the explore the status quo and the relationship between the applications of principals’ leadership behavior and leadership effectiveness in Taichung county. Several recommendations for improvement were made according to the research conclusions.
This study was proceeding with surveys of “principals’ leadership behavior and leadership effectiveness of junior high school in Taichung county” which was made up by the researcher. The 605 samples were selected from junior high schools in Taichung county. According to the collected and analyzed data, the conclusion of this research were as follows:
1. The performance about the status quo of leadership behavior, revealed that transformational leadership is the most, transactional leadership is the second, and the non-transactional leadership is the least.
2. The performance about the status quo of leadership effectiveness revealed that the achievement degree of goal is the highest, satisfaction degree of leadership is the second, and the satisfaction degree of working is the lowest.
3. The teachers of junior high schools perceived an upper level on principals’ leadership behavior and leadership effectiveness.
4. There is a significant difference of the perception of junior high schools teachers with difference background between leadership behavior and leadership effectiveness. There is stronger perception among the teachers who are male, elder, longer active service or part-time administrator.
5. There is a significant difference of the perception of junior high school teachers with difference background between leadership behavior and leadership effectiveness. There is strong perception among the teachers who service at large-scale or downtown schools.
6. There are positive and strongly significant correlations among all dimensions of principals’ leadership behavior and leadership effectiveness. They revealed that transformational leadership is the highest, transactional leadership is the second, and non-transactional leadership is the lowest.
7. Principals’ leadership behavior had predictive power for all the dimensions of leadership effectiveness. The idealized attributes was stronger than the others.
Based on the conclusions, several recommendations were made for the authorities of concerned and junior high schools’ principals.
A. Recommendations for school principals:
1. They should keep good communication with school teachers and properly adjust the duty of administration.
2. They should learn more about leadership and apply it into practice.
3. They should praise senior and excellent teachers and let them become the models for school teachers.
4. They should care about female teachers and back them up.
B. Recommendations for the authorities of concerned:
1. They should hold more in-service training programs about principal transformational leadership.
2. They should enhance more principal leadership programs into the training of principal candidate.
3. They should make leadership as the item of principals’ evaluation about service.
4. They should give various resources to miniature schools.
