The Study of Antecedent to Affect the Number of Inbound Visitors in Taiwan－An Application of CAGE Model

碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 國際企業學系 === 94 === This study attempted to examine the influencing factors of international tourists who come to visit Taiwan. Based on the CAGE model, we constructed a framework to analyze the direct effects of the culture distance (CD), administrative distance (AD), geographic distance (GD), and economic distance (ED) on the motivation of the foreign travelers who intend to visit Taiwan. The data declared by Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) includes visitor statistics among 27 countries from 1999 to 2005. This study used the panel data to conduct the data analysis. The empirical results are as follows: 1. There exists a positive relationship between CD (focal country to Taiwan) and the ratio of the number of focal country’s tourists to its population (RNFCTP). 2. There exists negative relationships between AD and RNFCTP, GD and RNFCTP, and ED and RNFCTP. The study also found that there exist a non-linear decreasing relationship between ED and RNFCTP.
