碩士 === 國立花蓮教育大學 === 鄉土文化研究所 === 94 === This thesis explores land exploitation and settlement development in Changhua Plain during Qing Dynasty to present how the natural resources and Han people’s livelihood of different regions differentiate the development of settlement. In light of the study of Qing’s land contracts and documents, the transformation of land exploitation in Changhua Plain in the three different terms is disclosed. Probing into the difference of livelihood between the Han and the Pingpu, the study also reveals the reasons that allow Han Chinese to obtain lands from the Pingpu people. In addition, the author investigates the process of development and classification of commercial centers from the perspectives of transportation, state manipulation and economic production. By understanding the regional transfer of economic products, this research displays the formation of the hierarchical relationship among those commercial centers inside Changhua Plain.
