Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 教育學系 === 94 === Abstract This study aims to explore the current situation of participation in in-service education by junior high school social studies teachers in Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas and their teaching effectiveness. The goal of this study is to increase teachers’ teaching effectiveness through in-service education. The study results found that among the activities of in-service education, “further study program offered by schools” attracted the highest percentage of teachers to participate in; in time for receiving the in-service education, the highest percentage appeared “in the afternoon of midterm examination”; “voluntary participation” constitutes the highest percentage in the activities of in-service education; “free” study program had the highest percentage of participation; in the institutions which provided such activities of in-service education, “teaching school” had the highest percentage; in the contents of in-service education, the highest percentage appeared in “curriculum and teaching materials”; in the motive for teachers to take part in the activities of in-service education, “arrangement of the school” had the highest percentage; in the methods of in-service education, the highest percentage fell in “experts lecture”; the current situation of teachers’ participation in in-service education was different among teachers with different background variables; the social studies teachers in Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas perceived that their teaching effectiveness was above average; teachers with different background variables perceived that they were different in many aspects of their teaching effectiveness; the social studies teachers in junior high schools in Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas showed significant differences in many aspects of their teaching effectiveness after participating in in-service education. According to the study results, the following concrete suggestions are submitted for the reference of education application and future studies: to consolidate the contents of in-service education, to establish appropriate incentive measures, to provide planned study contents, to enhance the in-service education on teaching materials and methods and teaching practice, to provide quotas for in-service education at a different ratio, to establish a shift system for teachers to hold administrative posts at the same time, to implement the teachers’ life-long learning system practically, to set up an in-service education effectiveness evaluation index, and to promote a school-based in-service education system.
