Abstract
In order to break through the constraint of the traditional religion art form, and to explore new looks of religion art, I learn from Taoism’s ceremony and activities that there are numerous Taoism's gods. I choose one particular god, the Xuan-tian God, as an example and analyze his features, and further incorporate such into my work. The purpose of this research is to discuss the artistic aspect of Taoism's ceremony.
I use various angles of iconography, semiology, traditional art type of facial make ups, chromatology and social art as the fundamental spirit of my work. It uses the totem and shape in the shape of ancient Chinese word-sign and pattern as its main framework, which is in combination with religion art, and merging with contemporary art form. By means of conceptual art and installation art, I expect to show a general figure art.
I represent my whole ideas in the form of mixture of traditional and contemporary art. I hope people may view these religious ceremonies from an artistic viewpoint, and appreciate the old beliefs and legend contained therein. From a new angle to see the religious art, people may see the beauty of our own culture. These local culture features will continuously be shown and cultivated in a more innovative way after more local artists deeply learn and recognize them.
