Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 國民教育研究所 === 94 === The purpose of this study was to explore elementary students’ conditions of English learning adjustment in a sixth-grade English classroom in southern Taiwan. Qualitative research was adopted. Participant observation and interviews were used to collect data through the method of “purpose sampling.” The data were analyzed to examine the process of English learning adjustment that students had experienced, the types of learning behavior they presented, and the factors that affected their adjustment in learning English. The study aims to: (1) understand the real condition of sixth-grade students’ English learning;(2) explore the current status of sixth-grade students’ English learning adjustment;and (3) investigate the factors that influence sixth-grade students’ conditions of adjustment in English learning. The study has obtained the following conclusions: 1. In the English classroom, sixth-grade male students obtained more feedback than female students by means of asking questions. The condition of their English learning adjustment is more positive. 2. Since the sixth graders are going to step into junior high school to face the advanced English curriculum, the myth of never study enough has greatly perplexed them. 3. The teaching methods may influence on students’ motivation in learning English. Using various inspiring stories can promote the sixth-grade students’ interests in English learning. 4. The relatively lower social and economic status within the families will not hinder the students from adjusting to English learning. 5. The sixth-grade students’ experiences of learning English will not impact their adjustment and transition to junior high school. Based on the conclusions drawn from the study, some suggestions for future research were recommended.
