Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 語文教育學系教學碩士班 === 94 === Long KMT-governing totalitarian period oppressed and disregarded Taiwanese literature. Mr. Chung, after first making his literary mark, has followed realism and used Taiwanese local literature as his theme since anti-communism literature and rootless floating modern poetry that stemmed from the Western dominated Taiwanese literature. In his works, thematically female and romantic novels play a virtually important role, and the pursuit of an ideal female remains his main issue. Major analysis of his novels contains issues like female sorrow over colonization, female tragedies in male-dominant society, the mourning of fostered daughters-in-law, and female’s hard work. The researcher quotes western feminism, combined with historical texts for analysis, and explores into his female characters’ images from outer images, mental world, words and behaviors as well plots. The research also discusses the portrayed female romances in Chung’s novels from ‘The Love between Japan and Taiwan,’ the pursuit of an ideal female, and the differences and commonness between female’s pursuits of love, and repeatedly reads Chung’s novels for the connection Chung’s background, viewpoints on love, era, related periodicals, feminism books, aesthetical theories, papers and dissertations for the research. After scrutinizing Chung’s literary works, the researcher deems that he receives high art achievement for his creature of Hakka female images, the great Taiwan-loving theme that depicts the pursuit of ideal females, the Taiwanese spirit based upon Japanese spirits and life energies born from marital romances. In his novels, however, his detailed description of him, who was indulged in personal affection that tends to be coward, hesitant, and negative, messes up his plots and context and weakens his criticism of thematic ideas. Therefore, he lacks for groundbreaking and ample power for significant issues about male-dominant culture, foster daughters, and colonial systems. Key words:Chung Chiao-cheng,Female,Novels
