Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 環境生物與漁業科學學系 === 94 === The conservation of cetaceans in Taiwan was strictly regulated recently. However, the conflict between the fishery loss and cetacean protection keeps growing. Fishery loss caused by cetaceans has often been complained by fisherman, such as stealing fish, frightening fish group, damaging fishing gear, and interfering fishing operation. To reduce the fishery loss due to dolphin and protect cetaceans from being caught, this study applied the bio-acoustic method to expel cetaceans from fishing gears. Pingers with 10 kHz sounds and 5 kHz ~ 160 kHz sounds, partly similar to killer whales sound, were attached in longline. The test results showed that it is significant that these pingers promote the catch rates and reduce catch damage rates.
