Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 應用經濟研究所 === 94 === Due to the increasing demand in domestic leisure travel and promoting international tourism, Taiwan Tourism Bureau aims at developing scenic areas with diversified recreational resources. Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area (DBNSA) has been chosen in such projects to become an international tourist destination. However, there are conflicts between development and conservation when exploiting its wetland and human ecology. This research will focus on the assessment of the economic value of DBNSA recreation resource to provide information for future management. This research uses double-bound then open-ended dichotomous choice Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). Conservation fees are asked directly from the respondents through following steps. First, the respondents are asked to give an answer of "yes" or "no" to two different prices. The respondent will then be asked to report their willingness to pay. Our estimation results show that five factors, including travel frequency, length of the time stayed, monthly income, membership of environmental association or group, and the initial price, significantly affect the response of a respondent. Our calculation shows that DBNSA tourists are willing to pay a total value of NT$136.69 millions each year to maintain DBNSA recreational resource at its current quality. Our analysis also shows that the results from double-bound then open-ended dichotomous choice are more efficient than the results from double-bound dichotomous choice. Natural resource is the most valued recreational resource by DBNSA tourists. Therefore, the authority has to carefully monitor DBNSA development project to prevent its nature resources from catastrophic consequences. Our estimation results may provide some valuable information to the authorities in the future budget allocation.
