Based on the standard research practice, the experiment was divided into parts: electronic map teaching and conventional sheet map teaching. The research took a total of four weeks and was conducted in both urban and rural schools. Researchers first gave a pre-test to all children in order to detect individual differences before learning. After teaching eight classes in a span of four weeks, researchers then made a comparison between electronic map and conventional sheet map teaching on the immediate map-interpreted ability and the actual substance the children have retained over the course. The collected information and its analysis contain both qualitative and quantitative data. The quantitative data includes the test scores of the students’ map-interpreted abilities, which also serves an indicator of learning behavior in class. The qualitative data contains the records of interview with the teachers and school children. The references explore the opinions and attitudes when electronic maps are applied in teaching, and the different class circumstances instructors would have to deal with when teaching with electronic map versus teaching with conventional sheet map. The research has reached the following conclusions: 1. Before the test, the map-interpreted ability of students in urban schools was better than that of students in rural schools. 2. The electronic map teaching can improve the school children’s map-interpreted ability in coordination location, spatial orientation, and symbolization. 3. The electronic map teaching cannot improve the school children’s measurement ability. 4. The electronic map teaching can promote children’s willingness in learning maps. Finally, the research discusses the results and provides recommendations on using electronic map in map teaching and other potential research on the same topic in the future. 丘立崗 2006 學位論文 ; thesis 146 zh-TW
