Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北大學 === 社會工作學系 === 94 === The purposes of the study are to explore the process of job-searching experienced by visual disabled people with a university degree and to discover the factors influencing the process of their job-searching. The study employed qualitative methods and conducted in-depth interviews with 6 research subjects. By means of compiling and analyzing data, the conclusion would be summarized as follows. I. The Process of Job-Searching The process of job-searching experienced by visual disabled people with a university degree could be approximately generalized into five parts. This process includes the self-exploration of job-searchers, the collection of job information, action-taking by job searchers, interactions with employers, and decision-making by job searchers. The five parts were generally experienced by the interviews. Also, the process of job-searching with the five parts was dynamic and operated back and forth. First of all, the job-searching process began with self-exploration with subjective self-reflection. The content of exploration comprised two aspects: the personal and social characteristics. Afterward, the job-searchers sought and gathered necessary information relating to job-searching. They tended to search individualized rather than general job information. As for the channels of job-searching, they preferred to make use of informal rather than formal job-searching channels. Moreover, there were two kinds of actions related to job-researching. The one was to search job information themselves; the other was to seek assistance from the employment service system. Besides, the study examined the types of questions employers usually asked during job interviews. The study examined how visual disabled people interacted with employers and the influences coming from employment service providers. In addition, the study helped to find out the differences experienced by visual disabled graduates in interacting with the public or the private employers. The final part was to make decisions concerning jobs. It discussed the types and reasons for choosing the jobs. II. The factors influencing the process of job-searching 1 Individual factors:Include visual status, education level and the major, and professional licenses and certifications. 2 Family and relative factors: Include emotional support, choice of occupation, and educational attitudes. 3 Social factors: Include utilization of resources, employer’s attitudes, social values, and social environment. As the study showed, the influential factors comprised individual and social models. In addition, family and relative factors should be considered in the Taiwanese context, apart from individual and social models. According to the results of the study, suggestions were made for the visual disable college students, employment services providers, and visual disable advocacy organizations.
