Especially those police officers who carry out their duty outside bear great pressure all the time because they not only have to face the violence, conflict and gangsters who break the law and commit crimes over a long period of time, but also always feel uncertain senses when they are in an unexpected situation. Moreover, the police precinct is the key team to deal with these affairs. The director of police precinct leads the affiliated groups of precinct and is responsible for the public security, traffic, and service of the area under his jurisdiction. As a result, the director of police precinct get the greatest pressure directly. This study has collected the materials about pressure management from theses, relevant books, periodicals, and clip newspapers to discuss and retrospect to documents. Besides, we interview the directors of the police precinct of Tainting County Police Bureau. It amounted to eight directors who is incumbent director or has had the experience of being a director of police precinct of Taitung County Police Bureau. Two of them are serving as the Chief Inspector of other police bureaus, and two of them are serving as the director of police precinct of other police bureaus, and the others are serving as the director of police precinct of Taitung County Police Bureau. The materials of interviews are probed into the analysis as follows: A. There are many sources of the working pressure of the director of police precinct. However, they can be summed up in three types, included: 1. Working pressure result from personal factor, included: a. The pressure comes from personal background and academic or professional experiences. b. The pressure causes from domesticity. c. The pressure arises from the physical or mental situation. d. The pressure comes from personal career development. 2. Working pressure result from external circumstances, included: a. The pressure comes from the aggravation of public security and traffic. b. The pressure causes from all representatives with concern. c. The pressure arises from mass media. d. The social pressure comes from the public who expect to good public security. e. The pressure causes from dealing with illegal activities which assembled a crowd. 3. Working pressure result from internal organization, included: a. The pressure comes from innovation and evolution of the organization. b. The pressure causes from the style of leadership of the superior. c. The pressure arises from the achievement of jobs which are ordered from the superior. d. The pressure comes from the conduct and discipline of the staff and interior management. e. The pressure causes from the promotion, the assessment, and the grade on the achievement. B. The modulation and countermeasures to working pressure of the director of police precinct. 1. The modulation of working pressure As to the modulation of working pressure, the director has to integrate his psychology. It is necessary that the director face the pressure composedly and analyze or deal with the pressure in an attitude of soberness and calmness. Furthermore, the director should view the crisis resulted from the pressure as an opportunity of personal endurance and growth. In this way, it should reconcile the working pressure effectively. 2. The countermeasures of working pressure, included: a. Integration of one’s psychology. b. Relaxation and exercise in moderation. c. Development of interests and hobbies. d. Development of moderate sense of humor. e. Spending more time getting along with families and friends. C. The conclusion of the study 1. The kinds of working attitude of the director which are affected by the pressure. 2. The director owns regional administrative resources; however, the pressure he bears from all walks of life is great. 3. The director who serves in complicated area or lives without family experiences more pressure. 4. The working pressure of the director of police precinct should be modulated and mitigated timely. D. Suggestions of the study 1. It should be considered about the characters of prospect and foresight and the balance between the power and responsibility of the director’s post. 2. It should be loosened about the authority of personnel and rewards and punishments of the director’s post. 3. It should be considered about the inquiry into related responsibility of the director’s post. 4. There are some proposals to perform the funds and budget of the police precinct. E. Suggestions to related studies in the future 1. It should be considered about the time and objects of interview. 2. Suggestions of the method of research. 3. It should be considered about the individual discrepancies in the area where the director serves. 4.It should be considered about the personality characteristic of the director.
