Well-planned, well-built cities exist in aesthetic harmony with nature environment. The contents and patterns of urban development get deteriorated since the persistent pursuit of the greatest economic benefits, unrealistic values, and the social interests. Under the growth of industrialization, the city loses its historical contexts and identities becoming a homogeneity city. However, the most serious crisis is that the landscape changes have been caused the problem of landscape fragmentation in the progression of city construction. The city, Kaohsiung, has faced the same challenge with the same background of industrialization caused violent transformations and destructions to the original natural environment. Although the authority initiated a serious of projects on the issue of urban management under the movement of “Townscape Renaissance Project,” the problem still remain unchanged-lacking of linear planning on the comprehensive establishment of the landscape system. The key purpose of the research is to realize the interrelationship between the drives of the landscape changes and the landscape structure of Kaohsiung city at each phase through the ways of collecting the data of nature environmental resources; classifying materials on the geographical features and economical development procedure; scrutinizing the defaults of the urban development upon the theory of the landscape ecology and foreign experiences. Eventually, the research shapes the unique identity landscape system based on the natural environment of Kaohsiung, and provides the guideline of the system.
