Description
Summary:碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 西班牙語文學系研究所 === 94 === Carmen Martín Gaite was one of the most famous female writers in the twentieth century. By way of her own specific point of view about women independence, C. Martín Gaite introduces a brand new feminine value through her novels in the Spanish society from the Franco period to Democracy. The issue of woman self-realization was one of her main themes and we can find out the social position of women in the different decades of the second half of the 20th century. We have followed the three phases of the classification of José Jurado Morales on La trayectoria narrativa de Carmen Martín Gaite and we chose three of her novels, one for each of the three periods: Entre visillos, El cuarto de atrás y Nubosidad variable. Through some representative female protagonists of the heroine adventure, C. Martín Gaite will lead us step by step along the journey towards self awareness and individuation. Our study is divided into six chapters: We start presenting our motivation, method and objectives. In the second chapter, we introduce the historical background and the society situation in those periods. In the third chapter, we analyze these three novels; by means of stating the protagonists, the structure and the novel subject, we are able to take a great advance on getting closer to the messages and tracks left by Martín Gaite on these three novels. In the fourth and fifth chapters we will combine this analysis with the structure and orientation of the journey as an unconscious transformation of our protagonists towards individuation according to C.G.. Jung’s theory and the goddess images and symbolization proposed by the Jungian analyst Jean Shinoda Bolen, in order to know more about our heroines characters. On the final section, we will present the whole journey based on the hero journey as proposed by Christopher Vogler, in order to explore our heroines’self-independence journey on both internal and external transformation procedures. By means of the transformation of each protagonist, we aim to present the self-awareness journey of C. Martín Gaite herself and a way for women’s self-independence and value recognition in the twentieth century.
