Description
Summary:碩士 === 東吳大學 === 政治學系 === 94 === Abstract The freedoms of election and party competition are the necessary factors to the fledging democracy, which fully and firm democratic system. Thus, the research of competition among political parties and electorates’ voting behavior during the process of democratization has attracted many political scientists’ attention. The KMT, which is regard as the outsider of Taiwan, has governed Taiwan for 50 years. The DPP, which is the most powerful opposition party in Taiwan, is now the ruling party here. How do they get the Taiwanese’ identity? How the electorates make voting choice between the totally different parties? The main theme of the thesis is to answer the following question, What images in electorates’ mind by KMT and DPP during the different phase and how to influence the electorates’ voting behavior? The treatise is discuss with KMT and DPP party image longitudinal transition and the interacts between party image、party preference、electorates’ voting choice by 1996、2000、2004 year three presidential elections survey data. According to three survey data, the DPP, in comparison to the KMT, is regard as a typically local and radical party, which represent the interest of Taiwanese, rather then KMT, which has connection with black gold (hei jin). For the observation of three presidential elections, different social groups, as ethics, gender, age, education, occupation, ethic Identity, national Identity and so forth, might have different cognitions and evaluations toward KMT and DPP. After comparing the three presidential elections, the factors that will influence the electorates are not all the same, especially on the party preference and party image. Besides, the party image can help to explain the voters' party preference significantly; in other words, the images do have an impact on the voters' preference towards parties. Meanwhile, consider about the party image also contribute to explaining the voters' party preference. When we analyzing the three presidential elections survey data, party preference is the most influential factor in the all variable that will influence the electorates’ voting behavior. The party image is also the obviously manly factor to influence the electorates’ voting behavior except the presidential election in 2000. This phenomenon also shows the party image of the KMT and DPP are also factors that influence the electorates’ voting to KMT or DPP.
