| Summary: | 碩士 === 樹德科技大學 === 應用設計研究所 === 94 === In recent years, stylish expression of plant is often found in cultural merchandises. Plant decoration also frequently appears in general goods to produce an external sensation of buying urge for consumers. This paper expects to clarify that in the ideology of designing, historical origin is an important reference for designing work. By applying plant decoration in the plate design that is used for worshiping purpose, either the “form” on the surface or the “significance” inside represents a transformed modern merchandise with plant decoration that restores the original symbolic meaning of plant in tradition while consumers use it in a sense of deep emotional connection.
This paper first introduces the plant decoration carving in Taiwanese temples to locate its features of composition. Temples have been the traditional Chinese architectures that maintain the most carving. Then it discusses how the carving is transformed to become a design on plates that are used in worshipping gods or ancestors; then it presents historical evidences on how traditional plants are implied in meanings and tries to clarify their shapes and species to see that their basic conditions accord with the principle of beauty. Besides, their lines, appearances and colors must be complete and simplified to be able to be put to work in contemporary designs. Those images may convey the thought of worshipping during which people’s spiritual level is enhanced.
