We have to discuss these 3 aspect at the same time, in order to reveal the developing process of Standard Calligraphy. Standard Calligraphy is born from a clerical style of calligraphy, therefore, we will prob into the clerical style rather than tracking back limitlessly. The Standard Calligraphy of Tang Dynasty formed its style mainly in the era of Southern and Northern Dynasties. In the early years of Tang, the Standard Calligraphy style was no longer as tough as Northern Dynasty Calligraphies, but it still held the essence of rustic northern concept. Xun Ouyang, Shi-nan Yu, and Sui-liang Chu were the VIPs of the early years of Tang, they not only made great influence by their achievements in art, but also were authorities in politics and academia.
