Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 博物館學研究所 === 94 === Recently, several private museums in Taiwan were forced to terminate operations due to business, general economic or personal issues. There always seems to be severe crisis underlying the operations of private museums in Taiwan. On the other hand, small and medium enterprises in Taiwan went through and survived the Asia financial crisis. What kind of sustainable management strategies do these enterprises have? Which of those management strategies can be used as reference for private museums? In addition, how can private museums make use of public resources to ensure sustainability of their visions and missions? These are issues to be explored in this paper. This study uses the Hong-Gah Museum as a case study, examining the background of the museum’s establishment, its current state of operations, and its future development strategy, to explore how private museums in Taiwan respond to the issue of sustainable management. Furthermore, this study hopes to determine management strategies that private museums in Taiwan can use, and identify practical measures for their sustainable management. The conclusion of this study shows that it is feasible to introduce business management concepts and strategies in private museums in Taiwan, although it is necessary to use different strategic planning based on the current state of each private museum. The current management strategies and future development of the museum in the case study can also serve as reference for other private museums. However, when private museums deploy management concepts and strategies, the objective should be for sustainable management rather than for profit; it is necessary to maintain the core value that led to the establishment of private museums when introducing management concepts and strategies. In addition, private museums must rely on resources and guidance from the government to facilitate future development, and must attract more businesses or individuals to support the museums’ development. Private museums must enable experts, scholars, government officials, and the public who care about the development of private museums in Taiwan to better understand the current state of private museum operations, pay serious attention to the museums’ operational difficulties, and provide the necessary assistance to enable museums to achieve sustainable management.
