Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北藝術大學 === 美術學系美術創作碩士班 === 94 === Abstract I have always been fascinated by the diversity and experimental aspects of printmaking media since I started working with this genre some ten years ago. In this discussion, I have also included the issue of association between the selected medium and the finished work itself, in addition to the substance of the artwork. In today’s world of computerized drawing and advanced printing techniques, what make prints stand out, based on the definition of this genre, include its reproducibility which allows the production of a number of original copies and lower costs, as well as other possibilities of two-dimensional creations. This series of works takes into consideration these concepts, blended with the printmaking techniques chosen to match the theme: abstract prints mainly oriented towards overlapping of color layers. This paper consists of five chapters, as follows: Chapter 1: Introduction: This chapter deals with the motive behind this series of works, including evolution of creative style, how symbolism turns into abstract forms, the association of template concept and method of expression with the art piece, as well as the scope and contents of the discussion. Chapter 2: Images and Tracks: This chapter discusses the substance of the art works, including analysis of forms, the significance of chosen images and the transformation process of forms, as well as viewpoints on presentation. In the three sections, comparative analysis with similar works by other artists is carried out. Chapter 3: Between Overlapping and Repetition: This tackles the art works’ forms, how concepts and experimentation play their roles in the creative process, and how lay outs, colors and spatial structures are decided based on the themes. Chapter 4: Medium and the Creative Process: This chapter deals with the media and work conditions, the printmaking concepts I used in this series, the creative trials and the relationship between my physical condition and the art works during the creative process, as well as perceptions on my living and working environments, and the linkages between the two. Chapter 5: Conclusions: In this chapter, I have explained my views on the definition of printmaking, how they applied in my creative process, my introspections and thoughts, as well as some of my ideas on future creative work. Printmaking expressions come in countless styles. In the evolution of this art, technicality is no longer just an issue considered for the purpose of printing. As a creative genre, printmaking is not merely dabbling in techniques and effects but likewise emphasizes association between the substance of the art works and the medium of expression. This issue is the focal point of my discussion and experience-sharing in this paper.
