This study was divided into two sections. The first section was a pre-examination study. The main purpose for the first section was to interview experts and let them precede an experiment to find out the best solution for elderly stapler design. The second section was the formal experiment; the experiment was based on the pre-examination study in section one and had designed three different types of laborsaving stapler. The heights for each laborsaving stapler differ from 42.8mm, 50mm to 55mm. The main purpose for the experiment was to understand user’s preference and was also tested on 15 young people and 15 elderly people. Results are listed in the following below; 1) Stapler height of 42.8mm and the stapling power of 5.98kg appears to be the best laborsaving in this study. 2) As for three new-type staplers, only the easy-recognizing factor doesn’t matter much upon each staplers, the new operation height of 50mm remains to be the best for hand load, operating, holding, sense of strength and satisfaction. 3) In this study, laborsaving design helps elderly people operate the stapler easily. And the best efficiency stapler appears to be with the operation height of 55mm, and then comes the 42. 8mm stapler. Universal stapler design not only has to consider the laborsaving factor, but also the simplicity factor as well. From this study’s experiment and subjective estimation, it is advised that staplers should be designed in an operation height of 50mm, which also saves the power for operating it.
