The numerical results of motion of a miscible magnetic fluid in a capillary tube provide quantitative information that is essential for a systematic analysis of flow field. The influences of dimensionless control parameters, such as field strengths ( ), field distributions ( ) and viscosity contrasts ( ) are analyzed. In order to have initial qualitative comparisons, a preliminary experiment of less complex immiscible drop and miscible layer are conducted to give some insights of the drop motion and deformation. For a magnetic drop, a higher speed is observed at a larger . However, in addition to the moving speeds, more profound influences, such as the drop deformation, are caused by different field distributions and viscosity contrasts . A tailed moving drop is resulted by a larger and a smaller .As to the situation of a magnetic layer, the effects of lead to different motion of magnetic layer and its deformation.
