On the other hand, partially coherent reception is used to indicate the phase estimation is not so precise and can not be neglected. In this thesis, under the assumption of partial coherent reception, a binary phase-shift keying direct sequence spread spectrum (BPSK-DSSS) systems over a frequency selective Nakagami fading channel is investigated. The effect of phase noise on bit-error rate (BER) the performance of the system is examined. The phase noise is assumed to arise from phase locked loop (PLL) dynamics and the statistics of phase errors is approximated as Tikhonov function. At the receiver, a RAKE demodulator is used to demodulate the received signals. The analysis indicates that a BPSK-DSSS system suffers performance degradation from the imperfect phase estimation significantly. For example, when PLL SNR is 5 dB greater than the receiver SNR, the degradation is about 6 dB at BER= , and when PLL SNR is 20 dB greater than the receiver SNR, the degradation is about 1 dB at BER= .
