Compared to traditional strain gauge, the cost of a self-made single-slit optical strain gauge is much more inexpensive than an traditional one and easy to make. During the making of the self-made single-slit optical strain gauge might cause several inaccuracies and the limit of gap of the slit. The error finding and its regression analysis will be discussed in this study. A customized optical strain gauge built on single slit diffraction theory is to cooperate with image capturing system and a precious measurement method will be done. The accuracy of image capturing system is much better than the traditional ruler by naked eye. Thanks to digital image processing, the length of the zero order fringe will be obtained by CCD and to create a regression curve with the result followed by various specimens with different widths of the slits.
