For the different geometry of soil considered, the bearing capacity of the cohesive and no-cohesive soil and the progressive failure mechanism, are compared with those obtained by limite analysis. For the different geometry considered, the analytical and F.E.M. about 2D and 3D. These studies include: 2D cross section、vertical section and 3D ground collapse failure mechanism, the analysis and calculation are theoretically coincidence. The influence of the overburden depth and different mechanism for the failure mechanism is investigated, that used the F.E.M. with critical ratio. According to the results obtained, it show that the results can be used to simulate and predict the upper bound value of the bearing capacity in 2D cross section. About 2D vertical section, it show that the mechanism C4 can obtain the minimum value. Concerning the results obtained in 3D ground collapse mechanism, the finite element analysis results are close to the critical ratio of Sloan (2003), it show that can be predicated by the modeling with interface element.
