In the past, manufacturers and suppliers were rivals. Today, businesses consider their suppliers as their partners from the perspective of long term cooperation. Consequently, more and more manufacturers have stopped cooperating with a large number of suppliers in order to establish a closer partnership with a few select suppliers. The purpose of this research is to understand the partnership between manufacturers and suppliers in Taiwan’s high-tech industry. According to the results of literature reviews, the research constitutes four important aspects for partnership, namely: partners’ characteristics, quality of partnership, closeness of partnership and cooperative performance. Based on the four aspects, the researcher designed the researching structure, hypothesis, and questionnaires, which were distributed to the procurement and quality assurance departments of high-tech businesses. The methodology adopted by the research was to process the questionnaires with SPSS and LISREL. Through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the research structure and hypothesis would be constructed and examined. This research embeds a case study of high-tech businesses in Taiwan to examine the general structure and hypothesis initiated by the researcher. The research also proposes some suggestions in regard to the closeness and cooperative performance of such partnerships, with the aim of providing substantive advice to high tech industries in Taiwan on mutually beneficial partnerships.
