This study aims to explore the utilization of outpatient medical care caused of the road traffic accident in the short run in Taiwan. The study applies the data in “Integrate Road Traffic Accident Data System” of IOT, linking the Road Traffic Accident Data in 2001 to 2003 with NHI hospitalization data ranging from 1999 to 2003, and sieve out the diagnose of E-code in ICD-9-CM code between 800-959 placed into three different studying areas. One-Sample t-test is adopted to define the time frame of outpatient medical care, and reduce the causes to Hospital Visited Characteristic in the short term after the accident. The study reveals male is two times more than female as the main group, the medical visiting rate is about 718.3 per 100000 population and most of them are teenagers and adults whose age are between 15 to 44 of the hospital visited characteristic. There are 57.80% of total reported in the injured degree, the death rate is only 1.32%. The average medical cost of every person-time is 719.68 NT dollars, the higher the age range the higher the average medical expenses it costs, the older and aged group(over 65 years old) have the highest expenses. Some departments of the medical care group are highly related to the accidents. These departments are Surgury, Orthopedics, Neurology, Plastic Surgury and Emergency. Based on the results, we conclude with the time frame of the outpatient medical care in the short term after the accident was divided into three parts. The first part is as within or no more than 20 days after the accident with the average medical visit 3 times per person, the time interval should not be over 2 days between the occurring date to the first medical visit, and total medical expenses (774,991,104NT) is related to the accident. And second, the time interval less than 3 days between the occurring date to the first medical visit, and total medical expenses (766,428,382NT) .The last part is as within or no more than 29 days after the accident with the average medical visit 3 times per person, the time interval less than 3 days between the occurring date to the first medical visit, and total medical expenses (686,622,086NT) is related to the accident.
