Different types of polymer matrices have been used to prepare nanocomposites. In this study, (PMMA)/clay nanocomposites were prepared by using poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as a polymer matrix and clay as an inorganic filler. There were two clays with different cation exchange capacity (CEC) applied to compare those properties. The clays have been modified, using Amphoterge K2 by ion exchange reaction. The modifying agent is used not only to increase inter layered spacing, but also the compatibility between the clay and polymer matrices. The modified clays have been characterized by wide angle X-ray diffraction pattern (WAXD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA). The PMMA/clay nanocomposites have been prepared by solution polymerization method. The powdered X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques were employed to study the morphology of the PMMA/clay nanocomposites. The thermo-mechanical properties were examined by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Gas permeability analyzer (GPA) shows the excellent gas barrier property of the nanocomposites which is consistent with the morphology. The optical property was measured by UV-VIS spectroscopy which shows that these materials have good optical property. Tsung-Yen Tsai 蔡宗燕 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 111 zh-TW
